Dr. Stephen Chan began his medical career in the same area he spent much of his young lifeâ€"Southern California. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and went on to complete his doctor in dental surgery degree (DDS) at UCLA’s School of Dentistry. After completing his graduate studies, the now-Dr. Chan completed a two-year residency at UCLA Medical Center, where he provided vital dental services to the medically vulnerable, including mentally and physically disabled persons. During his residency, he administered conscious IV sedation and performed dental treatments for patients under general anesthesia.
After completing his residency, Dr. Chan went on to earn his doctor of medicine (MD) degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. Upon completion, he successfully finished a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery and trained at myriad hospitals, including Children’s Medical Center, Zale/University Hospital, St. Paul Hospital, Parkland Memorial Hospital, JPS Hospital at Fort Worth, Baylor Hospital, and the Veterans Affair Medical Centerâ€"during which he participated in a general surgery internship and trained as an anesthesia resident with expanded-scope facial and cosmetic specialization.
Dr. Chan is certified in advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) and advanced trauma life support (ATLS) and permitted to administer general anesthesia and IV and oral sedation. He is a well-known thought leader, researcher in his field, and is highly involved within his community:
