Joseph W. Costa, Jr., D.M.D. was born and raised in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree cum laude in Biochemistry from Boston College in 1986, and his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree cum laude in a special field from the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in 1991. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a 2011 candidate for Master of the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Costa likes to get to know his patients well and establish a long-term commitment to their dental care. He has a very gentle chairside manner and is able to put even the most nervous patients at ease. His goal is for his patients to maintain healthy and beautiful smiles for a lifetime.
Dr. Costa's main clinical interests are cosmetic dentistry and general dentistry with an emphasis on implant restorations. He has received extensive training in occlusion, TMJ dysfunction and complex dental case management at the prestigious Dawson Center for the Advancement of Dentistry in St. Petersburg, FL and the Seattle Institute of Advanced Dental Education.
Dr. Costa completed a general practice residency and a general dentistry fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston. In 1993, he was appointed to the attending staff at BWH as an Associate Surgeon. He is a former Director of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard-Wide General Practice Residency Program. From 2000-2004, he was appointed as the Chief of the Division of Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry at BWH.
Dr. Costa has held teaching appointments at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and at numerous Harvard teaching hospitals in Boston.
In 2002, Dr. Costa became a Partner of Hammond Pond Dental Associates where he works four days per week. Also, he currently maintains an adjunct appointment at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where on a part-time basis, he manages the care of mentally and physically challenged patients in the operating room under general anesthesia.
Dr. Costa is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS). He has both lectured and volunteered at the Yankee Dental Congress, the annual Boston dental conference sponsored by the MDS.
In his spare time, Dr. Costa enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife, his two young daughters and his chocolate lab, Barney. He enjoys fitness, reading, computers, listening to music and is an accomplished pianist.
Elliot V. Feldbau, D.M.D. received his Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors in Chemistry from Clark University in 1967, and his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree cum laude from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in 1971.
He served as a Lieutenant with the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in San Francisco in 1972 and completed a dental hospital internship gaining expertise in many phases of complex dental treatment. At this time he additionally received training in clinical hypnosis. This later experience began a career long interest in behavior modification as it relates to dental fear and avoidance of dental treatments. Dr. Feldbau has helped countless numbers of patients overcome their fears, and enjoy a life of good oral health and a beautiful smile.
Dr. Feldbau has held appointments at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Bunker Hill Community Health Center, The Brookside Community Health Center, and for 32 years was a Surgeon, Division of Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, The Brigham Dental Group. In 2002, he became President of Hammond Pond Dental Associates. He currently holds teaching appointments at Harvard University and Boston University, and he consults to the Dental Relaxation media group. In addition, he has published numerous scientific papers, and has a U.S. Patent for a dental device.
Dr. Feldbau is a member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, The American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. At Hammond Pond Dental Associates, Dr. Feldbau practices all phases of general and restorative dentistry, including implant, cosmetic and sedation dentistry.
